In the book I Am Number Four, John Smith and his Cêpan, or guardian, Henri, are
running and trying to keep under the radar from the Mogadorians. The only way
they can do this is if they keep moving from one town to another, hoping to go
unnoticed and trying to blend in with everyday life. They came here from their
dying and invaded planet of Lorien, along with 9 other Garde (teenagers and
Cêpans, also running from the Mogs).
John (number four) and Henri move to a town
called Paradise in Ohio from Florida. There, John is developing some new
legacies, which are basically Loric powers. He has what includes
healing,
telepathy, and many more. John is attending Paradise High School. He has
become the opposite of unnoticed within a few weeks, having picked a
fight, made a friend and likes a girl. The news spreads pretty fast
about him, and him and Henri try their hardest to clear everything.
The Mogs are trying to kill off all of the
Loric people, and are hunting down the remaining 10. They can only kill them in
numerical order, and so far, three are dead. Everything is serious now so John
nor Henri can let their guards down. This means being extremely careful and not
being recorded in or on anything, like in schoolbooks or the Internet, changing
names with each move and leaving no traces. Also, towards the end of the book, John meets Number Six who helps Four when the Mogs eventually find him. They both use their to defeat them and are safe, for now.
